Maptech's

John, Wetstuff's Director & Chief
Instructor, has been involved in marine computing, navigation systems
and gadgets over the last 10 years or so. His time as a Service
Engineer with Garmin, evaluating Psion to GPS software for Palmtop
Magazine, and helping develop marine orientated software products mean
he has played with many of the packages available. This combines well
with a practical approach to teaching boating over the years where he
has been an advocate of the use of all sorts of aides to make life
easier - as long as the basic principals are understood to help spot
errors.
This has led to Wetstuff working together with
Evo Distribution (Maptech's distributor in the UK) to provide a one-day
Basic Electronic Charting course. The course is aimed at newcomers to
electronic charting, with a maximum of 2 students per computer to
ensure plenty of time getting your hands on the software. The courses
will have a maximum of 6 students, with dates being offered initially
once per quarter. Other dates will be available for groups of two or
more students.
During the day, you will be introduced
the "mandraulic" chart plotting skills every navigator should have,
before moving on to seeing how much quicker the same tasks can be on
the computer. You will learn how to set up your GPS properly - and to
interface it to a computer.Towards the end of the day, you will be
given an insight into the more advanced features that are found in
Maptech Chart Navigator Pro. All of this means that Wetstuff's Basic
